Back in January this year, I was delighted to receive a very exciting phone call from the fund-raising team at St Michael’s Hospice to say that my design ‘The Bathers’ had been chosen by the team and my fabulous sponsor – Park Holidays UK – for their Follow That Duck Trail in the Summer.
Here is the official write up from the inspiration behind my design:
The Bathers take inspiration from the idea of wild and sea swimming, a lovely way to enjoy the sheer enormity, wonder and beauty of our natural environment. The Bathers remain safe in their RNLI inspired rubber ring, with an image that promotes kindness, inclusivity, gratitude and a real sense of looking after one another.
The duck was delivered safely in March (it was HUGE) and the enjoyable but slightly daunting task of painting began! It took me 2 full weeks to design, sketch, paint and varnish, transferring my 2D design onto a 3D sculpture.
I waved goodbye to my duck at the beginning of April and the ducks were kept ‘quietly on their nests’ until the Trail officially launched on June 24th 2022!
You can now see my duck and 29 others, dotted around Hastings and St Leonards on Sea until September, when the Trail ends.
My duck can be found at ‘The Stade Open Space’ and I am chuffed to bits to now reveal the entire design in all its glory here:
