Hello and welcome…

I’m Katy Dynes, an illustrator specialising in book illustrations, working on very old dictionary paper, teaching art workshops and painting massive sculptures and murals.

I have been illustrating full time since 2007 and absolutely love what I do (I also love foxes, curious characters, crunchy apples and a good old mug of very strong coffee).

...... Is beavering away on some BIG projects in Norfolk at the moment, but am thrilled with the display of some of my illustrated merchandise, currently at the beautiful @holdenbyhouse.
Holdenby House is holding a Summer Fayre on Bank Holiday Monday (31st August) in celebration, marking the last official opening day of the house.
You can find my work in the Holdenby shop, alongside the fabulous @jackastburywoodwork and @madebythebeekeeper.

..... Hi everyone!
Delighted to meet some new people on here, so thought I'd do a little re-introduction of me and my work!
Here are 7 things, you may not know about me!
* My name is Katy and I've been 'working' (read as drawing every day!) as a full time illustrator since 2007!
*I originally studied as a 2d animator, working alongside companies such as Disney, Aardman and Warner Bros, I graduated....... and then decided I loved the more illustrative aspect of the work!
*I've worked with, and met some amazing people, much of the time, by chance. I starred in the fabulous Chris Riddell's "travels with my sketchbook" when Chris was Children's Laureate.
*I absolutely LOVE books. I'm very very elusive outside of when "I need to be out" and on social media, as usually, I'm reading (or coaxing plants into growing) !
*When I was a kid, I always wanted my super power to be "invisibility". I used to sit in fields or up in trees to see if I could magically disappear. I've carried this wish into adult life and it has stood me in good stead, always being an "observer"...... Hence the ability to draw super quick!
*I love all animals but particularly foxes. I grew up on a farm and was always surrounded by cats - so, "Kitty Dinners" seemed to be an apt play on my name.
*I also love to dance but am HOPELESS at following any kind of routine. I am an absolute free styler, which always makes me laugh and brings me great joy!

...... Just had THE BEST time, live sketching at this fabulous event last night, courtesy of the amazing @quinnsbookshop.mh and @duncanmurraywines!
We had such a laugh, tasting different European wines, alongside gorgeous platters of complementary foods and the dulcet tones of Danny, as she read extracts from a variety of novels to transport you to the azure blues, sandy yellows, calling cicadas and the smell of lemons, of the Med.......
A huge Thankyou to Danny, Chris and Duncan..... And to everyone who came and made me feel so welcome. Please let's do another! x

...... And for my next trick, ahem, sorry, workshop post, this one is a real treat!
For all the family!
Young people - bring your favourite adult and come and make a comic book with me!
On Thursday, 13th August, from 10am-12pm at the fab @leicestershirecraftcentre, we learn about characters, story telling and scenes..... And will make our very own or shared comic to take home!
It's always a pleasure and a privilege for me to run this workshop and I hope you'll find it rewarding too!

..... Is ridiculously excited (and really busy) with some incredible projects, events and exhibitions in the next couple of months.
First up and as part of @northantsrutlandos, is our terrific exhibition at @jackdawgallery, located in the heart of Oundle.
There are 8 of us taking part here, from @louisecrookendenjohnson and @nicoladevas.artist glorious, joyful ceramics, to @burdettkatyartist and @jpooleartist mixed media and collage artworks to @redrobinstitchery intricate embroidery and gorgeous paintings by @di_guttridge_art and Deirdre Blackburn.
Oh, and there will be mischievous mice and detailed dictionaries from me!
Truly something for everyone....... From 1st-30th September.

..... Well, it's a great fortnight of workshops atm!
My lovely library workshops are now all completed (I'll be making a little reel of work later in the week) and from next week, I'm back at the fab @leicestershirecraftcentre in Market Harborough.
I'm running my illustration workshop next Tuesday, 4th August (there are a couple of spaces still available!), from 10am - 12pm, for 8-12 Yr olds, where we'll be looking at how to design characters, set a scene and tell a story.
For young people who want to learn a little more, there will be an Advanced Illustration workshop the following Tuesday (11th August, 10am - 12pm) where we'll be looking at working to a 'live brief'!
These workshops are usually so much fun.....Come and join in!

....... Is looking forward to another day of workshopping at 2 more fabulous Leicestershire libraries on Monday, 27th July.
We will be making windchimes from recycled, found or donated items! We had an absolutely brilliant time, last week, with each workshop being overwhelmingly sold out....... And everyone went home very happy with a creation they were proud of.
So......
If you're stuck for something to do with young people, aged between 5-12 yrs old, there are a couple of places left on each of these sessions ...... Lutterworth library in the morning (10.30 start - finish 11.30am) or Hinckley library in the afternoon (2.30pm start-3.30pm finish).
These events are free, but please book a ticket for your child, so we know how many people to expect!
It's going to be F. U. N!
